The English flag collections are based on the supplied FlaggQuiz dataset dated 2 November 2026. It contains 193 UN member states, Vatican City (Holy See) and Palestine. Translation does not constitute a fresh verification of every geographic entry. Population and archival geography retain their stated reference dates. Austria uses the final population figure for 1 January 2026 from Statistics Austria.
Country data
Country identifiers and geographic data derive from mledoze/countries and its contributors, with selections and capital distinctions from FlaggQuiz. English country names use Unicode CLDR names via Intl.DisplayNames, with editorial clarifications. English capital names and explanatory notes have been adapted from the German source.
The adapted country database is available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. Database attribution: mledoze/countries contributors; FlaggQuiz; Flaggs English adaptation.
- United Nations member states and non-member observer states.
- UN M49 geographic groupings. This quiz places Central America and the Caribbean in North America and Cyprus in Asia.
- South Africa: executive, legislative and judicial seats.
- Nauru: government offices in Yaren District.
- Sri Lanka: geographic profile.
Additional collection images
The city, regional, organisational, historical and signal images are retained unchanged from the German handover. The full attribution and licence records remain available: Hata asset credits, Hata MIT licence, Hata notice, Austrian images, additional regions, Malaysia, Argentina, additional Japan images, city images, additional city images, organisation images, historical images, signal image metadata, signal images Unlicense and retained pennant licence notice. Organisational symbols identify the subjects of educational articles and do not imply endorsement.
Flag images
Country flag SVGs are reused from the supplied FlaggQuiz project, whose country images come from Flagpedia / FlagCDN, drawing on Wikimedia Commons. Original flag artwork is retained. Belize uses the official standardised image from the National Institute of Culture and History, embedded unchanged within an SVG wrapper.
The supplied image correction record retains precise sources and notes, including Belize. The same correction record also documents regional images and flag variants in the full collection.
Variants and capital questions
Afghanistan is represented by the black, red and green tricolour, explicitly identified in the quiz as a historical variant. Flag designs that are visually very similar, such as Indonesia and Monaco or Chad and Romania, are not offered against each other as answer choices.
Where a capital, administrative centre, federal city or seat of government needs a distinction, the question names that role. Relevant notes appear after an answer and in the atlas. The supplied dataset's dated entries for Equatorial Guinea and Indonesia are retained and identified as such.
